The Shatt al-Arab municipality is one of the municipalities of the second class. Founded in 1979, the Shatt al-Arab district lies to the east of Basra city center in southern Iraq. The administrative boundaries of Shatt al-Arab are 352 km and the municipal boundaries are 200 km.
